Dream of a Night in Giza series by Dan Aug visionary Egyptian symbolic painting
Dream of a Night in Giza
Dream of a Night in Giza is the first major visionary painting cycle by Dan Aug. Developed over more than two decades, the series explores symbolic landscapes inspired by ancient Egypt, sacred architecture, and mythological archetypes. The complete cycle comprises 46 paintings created across different moments of the artist’s career. Presented here are 18 core works that form the central nucleus of the project and articulate the symbolic foundations of the series. Through these works, the visual universe of Dream of a Night in Giza unfolds as a poetic meditation on the spiritual imagination of ancient Kemet—pyramids, temples, cosmic landscapes, and mythic figures that emerge as fragments of a dreamlike narrative, subtly interwoven with speculative science-fiction imagery. From a curatorial perspective, the evolution of the series may be understood through four principal stages.

Vision (2002–2005)
The series originates from a primordial dream experienced by the artist, giving birth to the first cycle of paintings that established the symbolic universe of Dream of a Night in Giza.

Revisitation (2013–2014)
After several years, the project returns through new works exploring sacred Egyptian architecture and the cultural landscape of ancient Kemet.

Initiation (2019)
A third phase deepens the initiatory dimension of the series, introducing works that emphasize transformation, ritual symbolism, and metaphysical themes.

Narrative Expansion (2025)
The visual universe of the paintings expands into literature with the novel The Legacy of Neferu, where the imagery of the series evolves into a speculative narrative connecting ancient Egypt with a future civilization.
